Robert Lewandowski looking good ahead of Barcelona - Jerome Boateng

Bayern Munich attacker Robert Lewandowski has made "a very good impression" in training ahead of the Champions League semifinal at Barcelona, defender Jerome Boateng has said.

Lewandowski trained with a mask for the first time since sustaining a broken jaw and nose as well as a concussion after he collided with goalkeeper Mitch Langerak in the DFB Pokal semifinal loss to Borussia Dortmund last Tuesday.

The Poland international, who has struck five goals in the Champions League this season, did not feature in Bayern's 2-0 Bundesliga defeat at Leverkusen on Saturday, and he missed the training session the next day.

However, now wearing a mask to protect his face, he returned to training on Monday, and Bayern remain upbeat about the Pole's chances of taking to the field at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

"He made a very good impression," Boateng told reporters at a news conference in Munich on Monday afternoon.

"You need to feel safe, otherwise you don't need to take to the field. I think that he's fit. He will get accustomed to the mask. Robert has no fear. He is very courageous."

A swift return for Lewandowski, who had been in excellent form prior to his injury, would hand Bayern a boost as they are already without the wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, as well as versatile left-footer David Alaba and centre-back Holger Badstuber.

Several players such as Javi Martinez, Medhi Benatia, Thiago Alcantara and Philipp Lahm have been struggling with injuries in recent months, but are all fit to play the first leg of the Champions League semifinal.

Boateng knows that Bayern will face a huge task to take a positive result into the reverse fixture at the Allianz Arena next week but vowed to fight for their place in the Berlin final.

"We know it'll be hard at Camp Nou, but we're FC Bayern. We'll go there looking for a decent result. We're determined to make the final," he said.
