Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze 'bitter' about Borussia Dortmund snub

Mario Gotze has said it felt "bitter" to be on the bench against his former club Borussia Dortmund but he is determined to regain his place in the Bayern Munich side.

Gotze, 22, played just the final 11 minutes against his former side in Bayern's 1-0 win on April 4, with his recent form having come in for scrutiny.

The Germany international, who scored his nation's winning goal at last summer's World Cup, has made 26 Bundesliga appearances this season.

But Gotze faces competition for his place in Pep Guardiola's team with Thiago Alcantara having recently returned from a long-term injury.

"You can imagine how this situation felt," he said about being benched at Dortmund. "It was very bitter."

Regarding Gotze's place in the starting XI, Guardiola said in Sport Bild: "He needs to talk on the pitch at the right time.

"And not to journalists, not to his agent and not to the president or the coach."

Asked about Guardiola's comments, Gotze replied: "My only option is to convince on the pitch."
