Guardiola: We have to win in Munich (1:12)

Thiago Alcantara has returned to Munich to resume his rehabilitation training at Bayern Munich's club facilities.

When Pep Guardiola took over at Bayern in the summer of 2013, he picked Barcelona midfielder Alcantara as the one player that was to follow him.

"Thiago, and Thiago only," said Guardiola, and the Spain international arrived from Camp Nou in a 25 million-euro deal.

In his maiden Bundesliga year the 23-year-old played in 16 games and won 15 of them, the only draw coming in his final match of the season against Hoffenheim in late March, when he suffered a knee injury.

It cost him his place in Spain's World Cup squad and despite two efforts to return, one in May and one in October, he has been out of action since.

When suffering the second setback in October 2014, Thiago underwent surgery in Barcelona, and also began his rehabilitation training.

On Wednesday Thiago returned to Munich as he nears his return to team training, and on Thursday the club confirmed that the midfielder completed an hour-long personal session of running at Sabener Strasse.

Club captain Philipp Lahm -- out since December with a fractured ankle -- ran laps shortly before Thiago's session as he stepped up his own comeback.

"All is well, the club told me that I need to work hard," Thiago told Bild on Thursday.

Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer said: "His rehabilitation training is on schedule. We will take good care of the lad."

It is, however, not expected that the Spaniard will immediately return to team training, with the paper naming March as a more realistic target.
