Philipp Lahm moves closer to Bayern Munich return after ankle injury

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm is running again three months after fracturing his ankle.

The former Germany skipper suffered the injury while training during an international break in November. He underwent an operation and several weeks of physiotherapy, beginning rehabilitation work last month.

On Monday, 31-year-old Lahm took the next step on his comeback trail. While his teammates held a final training session ahead of the Champions League match against Shakthar Donetsk, he completed laps of the Bayern training ground, the club's official website reported.

Lahm has previously said that his aim is to return to action in time for the closing stages of both the Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns.

Speaking last month, he said: "I'm doing really well. It feels great to be rid of the crutches and in a position to go for it again. It's all going to plan."
