Unbeaten in 50: Bayern's Jerome Boateng sets new Bundesliga record

Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng has set a new Bundesliga record: going undefeated in his last 50 games (44 wins and six draws.)

Boateng, 26, last suffered a Bundesliga defeat more than two years ago, when Bayer Leverkusen took all three points from the Allianz Arena in late-October 2012.

Since that day, Bayern have only suffered two Bundesliga defeats -- both coming in April 2014 when they lost 1-0 at FC Augsburg and suffered a 3-0 defeat at home against Borussia Dortmund -- but Boateng was not in the side.

The previous record was held by his Bayern teammate Franck Ribery, who went undefeated in 49 league games until the Dortmund match, but Boateng usurped him at the weekend as Bayern beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 at the Commerzbank Arena.

With a third of the Bundesliga season played, the back-to-back champions hold a four point lead over VfL Wolfsburg, although Boateng insisted that it was too soon to talk about going the whole season unbeaten.

"That's just looking too far ahead," he told kicker. "We've only played 11 games, but want to remain undefeated as long as possible. But our goal is not to go through the season undefeated, and right now we only think from match to match."

The Germany international added that talking about a possible margin to the second-placed team at the end of the season "is without respect" and reiterated that the only goal in Bundesliga is "to win the league."

Bayern attacker Thomas Muller was on target three times against Frankfurt, and was a bit more optimistic than Boateng in his postmatch comments.

"It'll be difficult for every team in the world [to beat Bayern], when we bring seriousness and commitment to the pitch," he said.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola remained unimpressed with the club's near-perfect start, and told reporters that they "will now analyse what was good, and what we can improve. Of course, we will suffer a defeat someday."
