Green on Bayern squad for U.S. tour

A Bayern Munich spokesperson has confirmed that U.S. national team striker Julian Green will join the Bundesliga's defending champion side for their preseason fixtures in North America, according to a report on MLS.com.

Green, a German-American, made a one-time decision before the 2014 World Cup to play for the United States in international competition. But he still plays his professional club football for Bavarian powerhouse Bayern Munich, though he's only made one brief appearance for the club's senior side.

Bayern Munich plays two friendlies in the U.S. before starting their 2014-15 Bundesliga title defence. The first is against Club Deportivo Guadalajara at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on July 31, and the second match will be against the MLS All-Stars on Aug. 6, at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, as part of MLS All-Star weekend (ESPN2/WatchESPN, 9:30 p.m. ET).

- Davis: MLS Week 19 in review

Green was a controversial pick to the U.S. men's World Cup team, but he made a splash in the round of 16 against Belgium. The 19-year-old one-timed a pass from teammate Michael Bradley past Thibaut Courtois to briefly put the U.S. back in the game they ultimately lost 2-1.

The young striker just inked a deal with Bayern Munich last November, so this will likely be one of the few times fans in the U.S. or anywhere get to see Green play with the first team. He's only made one appearance for Bayern late in the second half of last season's UEFA Champions League campaign. He has yet to play for the Munich giants in the Bundesliga.
