Toni Kroos in no rush over new deal

Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has reiterated that he will not make a decision about his future until the summer.

Kross, 24, produced another inspired display on Saturday as Bayern saw off Schalke 5-1, touching the ball on 155 occasions -- the third highest total since the introduction of that statistic.

In recent weeks, the Germany international has not only made headlines on the pitch, but has also been the subject of much transfer speculation.

Kroos, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2015, but turned down an initial offer of a new deal from Bayern, who wanted to double his wages to eight million euros a year.

And the midfielder, who has become a key figure for the European champions, has now put all contract talks on hold until the end of the season.

“Because of my character this [the speculation] does not stress me at all. I do my thing, and I believe I have done that very well in recent weeks,” he told reporters.

Kroos added that “there are worse situations” than his at the moment, while conceding that he is holding out for a bigger pay rise from Bayern.

“It is certainly not only about the money, that would not be my character,” he said. “But, of course, I’d have to lie if I was to say that it is not also about the money.”

Kroos, who revived his somewhat stagnant career during a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen, said that he wants to focus on the World Cup in the summer.

He did not, however, reveal if he will make a decision about his future before or after the tournament in Brazil.

“There is no date when a decision has to be made,” he said.

Meanwhile, kicker has named Barcelona and Real Madrid as two clubs lining up for Kroos’ signature.

According to the paper, they have joined United, who have reportedly made Kroos a contract offer, in the race to land the player.

“Not many clubs come into question,” Kroos said about his potential new employers.

However, former Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes has urged Kroos to stay put at the Bavarian club.

“Players who have the potential for FC Bayern and can still further themselves should never even think about leaving the club,” Heynckes told kicker. “You don’t leave Bayern like that, not even for Real or Barca.”

Elsewhere, Arjen Robben, who scored three against Schalke at the weekend, has told Die Welt that he is considering spending the final years of his career in a new country.

Asked by the paper whether he will hang up his boots at Bayern, he said: “Maybe, at least my career on the highest level. My contract runs for another year. Should I prolong it, it will be for two years. I’ll be 33 after that.

“Of course, a year in another country could tempt me then, for instance in the United States. But at the moment there is no other club I would love to play for more than FC Bayern. I am very happy here.”
