Heynckes thanks Bayern for award

Ex-Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes thanked his former club as he beat Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp and retired Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to the FIFA Coach of the Year award.

• Molyneux-Carter: Bringing balance to the Ballon d'Or
• Smith: The trouble with picking the best
• Schaaf: Heynckes takes cake

Heynckes made way for Pep Guardiola this summer, but led the Bavarians to an unprecedented treble during 2012-13 campaign in what was his third spell with the club.

"I’m tremendously thankful to be here to pick up this award today," he said. "It means an awful lot to me to pick up an award at the end of the career. It’s not down to me. It’s down to the whole of Bayern Munich, everybody that’s concerned from the president to the players.

"They produced amazing performances and the coaching staff have made contributions. I want to thank everybody who has pulled together and helped me produce this winning team."
