Neuer named world's best keeper

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been named as the best in the world in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics' 27th poll.

Manuel Neuer was one of the Bayern players unimpressed by the use of vanishing spray at the Club World Cup.
Neuer was a key player in Bayern's phenomenal season.

Football writers and experts from 70 countries brought an end to the five-year reign of Real Madrid's Iker Casillas to crown Germany international Neuer, part of Bayern's Champions League and Bundesliga-winning side last season, the best in the business.

The 27-year-old had finished as runner-up in 2011 -- but this time was a clear winner, with more than 130 points separating him from runner-up Gianluigi Buffon.

Juventus keeper Buffon, 35, cemented a place in the top five for the 14th year in a row -- four of which saw him win the accolade -- after another excellent season in Italy.

Chelsea's Petr Cech, 31, finished in third place, with Thibaut Courtois, his potential successor at Stamford Bridge who is on loan to Atletico Madrid, in fourth.

Barcelona's Victor Valdes finished in fifth, with Casillas and Salvatore Sirigu, of Paris Saint-Germain, making up the top seven.
