Bayern eager to keep Kroos and Alaba

Bayern Munich general manager Matthias Sammer has signalled the club’s intention to open contract talks with Toni Kroos and David Alaba.

The majority of players in the Bayern squad are under contract until 2016, but Kroos and Alaba are only tied to the club until 2015. Sammer has indicated in kicker that he hopes to rectify that matter in the near future.

“There is not a lot of time left until 2015,” Sammer told the magazine. “When we are convinced about a player, we have so far always reacted early. We need to act early in cases where contracts expire in 2015, otherwise you end up with a poker game and this only causes unrest.”

He added: “After the season ends, we have to start talks.”

Kroos, 23, recently told kicker he could seek a “new experience” in 2015, but Bayern are determined to extend his deal.

“Toni is an outstanding footballer,” Sammer said. “He is a very important player for FC Bayern.”

Alaba, meanwhile, has excelled in the left-back position for Bayern, playing 71 Bundesliga games and winning 24 caps for Austria despite being only 20 years old.

“David is a good lad and a fantastic player,” Sammer said. “Bayern needs to keep such players.”

The player’s agent, Jeannot Werth, urged Bayern to start talks sooner rather than later if they want Alaba to remain at the Allianz Arena.

“There is quite a market for Alaba,” he said. “Bayern would be well advised to prolong.”
