Chicharito sets mark for Mexican in Europe with goals in 7 straight games

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has continued his one-man-show at Bayer Leverkusen, extending his scoring run to 10 goals in his last seven competitive matches for the German club.

Hernandez, 27, continued to pay back his reported €12 million transfer fee for his summer move from Manchester United by scoring a brace in his club's 3-1 Bundesliga victory at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Mexico striker became the first ever from his country in Europe to score in seven consecutive games, and has lifted his season tally to 12 goals in only 15 appearances for Leverkusen. He now has six Bundesliga goals, surpassing the previous best by a Mexican player in the German top flight. Pavel Pardo scored four times in 71 Bundesliga games for Stuttgart between summer 2006 and December 2008.

"Every team benefits from an attacker like Chicharito, who scores regularly," Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt, whose side moved back to sixth in the Bundesliga standings with the win at Frankfurt, told kicker. "He's integrated really well into our game. It's extraordinary that he scores that consistently."

The Mexican also received praise from the club's keeper Bernd Leno, who highlighted his work for the team.

"He's also very ambitious and very professional," he added.

Speaking to Bild, 2014 World Cup winner Christoph Kramer said that he was not surprised to see Hernandez play like that less than 48 hours after returning from Honduras, where Mexico had played a World Cup qualifier.

"Given the fact that he only slept two hours, he was pretty good," the Germany midfielder said.

Hernandez was equally delighted with his run, but added that he's not 100 percent satisfied with what he has achieved at Leverkusen so far.

"I've scored some goals, which is good and gives me confidence," he said. "But if I could swap some of those goals for additional points in Champions League or Bundesliga, I'd do that without hesitation."
