Bayer Leverkusen bank on Javier Hernandez vs. Stuttgart

Mexico international Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is part of Leverkusen's plans to finally start scoring in the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen have scored nine goals in the first three Champions League games of the season, with four of them coming in Bayer's 4-4 draw with AS Roma on Tuesday.

The former Manchester United attacker contributed a brace against Roma, and increased his Champions League tally to three goals in as many games.

Things have looked differently in Bundesliga, where the Mexican only found the back of the net once, and Leverkusen have struck only eight goals in nine games.

"We are one of the strongest attacking teams in Champions League," coach Roger Schmidt told his news conference prior to Saturday's Bundesliga match against strugglers VfB Stuttgart.

He added: "But we are way behind the pace converting chances in Bundesliga. We need to change that fast, and focus on our style of play, and do more after we've won possession."

Hernandez, 27, is likely to win his third consecutive Bundesliga start as veteran attacker Stefan Kiessling -- who has only just returned to team training following a groin injury -- remains a doubt for the Stuttgart.

Croatian defender Tin Jedvaj, 19, meanwhile has been ruled out for the remainder of 2015 with a tendon injury.

"That's horrible," Schmidt said.
