Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez: Bayer will recover from Darmstadt loss

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez has said that Bayer Leverkusen will bounce back from their shock 1-0 Bundesliga defeat at home to newly promoted Darmstadt.

Hernandez, 27, came off the bench in the second half on Saturday with Leverkusen already trailing, but was unable to turn the match around on his debut for the club.

The Mexico international, however, feels there was enough in the side's performance to show that they will recover from the loss quickly.

"We did not find a way to beat them and to score," Hernandez, who joined from Manchester United in the summer, told Bild. "Still, the communication with my teammates works out pretty well already. And it's not all that difficult to get along with the lads because the quality is very high here."

Leverkusen won their first two games of the Bundesliga season and also eliminated Lazio in the Champions League playoff round.

But they have now suffered two consecutive league defeats and are under pressure ahead of Wednesday's European clash with BATE Borisov and the trip to Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

Hernandez, who has already made an impact on Leverkusen's marketing exploits in the United States and Mexico, vowed to repay the trust the club's supporters have placed in him.

"I really enjoyed the reception I got and it motivates me," he said. "I can only thank them and tell the fans: we'll strike back. I will do all I can to help the team achieve our goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League."
