Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez to be on bench for Bayer Leverkusen

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez will not start for Bayer Leverkusen when they host newly promoted Darmstadt at the weekend, his coach Roger Schmidt has said.

Hernandez, 27, joined Leverkusen from Manchester United on a three-year contract this summer for a reported fee of £8.75 million.

His arrival has been warmly received by a number of the club's current squad, including captain Lars Bender, and also the fans.

The supporters will, however, have to wait a little longer to see the Mexico international in Bundesliga action as he is set to be on the bench against Darmstadt on Saturday.

"We would do him no service if we were to start him," Schmidt said, and went on to hint that Hernandez -- as well as fellow new signing Kevin Kampl -- will be involved at some point.

"We want to get him, and Kampl too, acquainted with us as soon as possible."

Leverkusen have won two of their three league games so far, losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich before the international break.

On Wednesday, Bayer begin their Champions League campaign with a home match against Belarusian outfit BATE Borisov.
