Rothen poised for Bastia exit

Jerome Rothen has said it would be “simpler” for him to leave Bastia after deciding he did not share coach Frederic Hantz’s vision for the club’s future.

Rothen, 35, the Ligue 2 Player of the Year when he helped the Corsican club into the top flight in 2012, scored three goals and made eight others as Bastia avoided the drop from Ligue 1 last season.

However, having talked to Hantz and concluded that they do not "share the same vision", the former France international - also his club side’s occasional captain - told RMC he was ready to move on.

"I was one of the leaders of the team and the club wants to put that in jeopardy," he said. "I don't understand the change in the hierarchy in terms of leadership.

“Consequently, so that the coach is freer in his choices, it's perhaps simpler that I'm not there.

“I also want to move closer to my family, my children, who are in Paris. I want to be in harmony with another coach, just as I was with Frederic Hantz for a certain time. I need to feel that I'm important."
