West Brom's Sandro out to stop ex-club Tottenham claiming victory

Sandro wants former club Tottenham Hotspur to win the Premier League but says he will be out to stop them getting three points when West Bromwich Albion visit White Hart Lane.

Sandro, 27, spent four seasons at Spurs before departing for Queens Park Rangers shortly after Mauricio Pochettino's arrival in 2014, and the Brazilian, currently on loan at the Baggies, returns to his old side for the first time on Monday.

A Tottenham win would see them close the gap on league leaders Leicester to five points with three matches of the season remaining, and although Sandro is delighted for his former club, he says he wants to help deny them victory.

"I'm really excited. It's the first time I'll have been there since I left," Sandro told Sky Sports. "I had a good four years there. Now they can win the league so it's been a massive change.

"Am I surprised by how well they've done this season? Yes, a little bit. It's not just the attackers who are doing well. It's the midfielders, the defenders, the manager. They've improved, you can see they're enjoying their football. I'm happy for them but now I have to try and stop them.

"For sure [I want them to win the league]. But we have to go there and try to stop them and try to win points. It's a special game but I will try to stop them."

Key to stopping Tottenham will be denying the Premier League's top scorer Harry Kane, who has hit 24 goals this season and will become the sixth-fastest player in the division's history to reach a half-century of league goals if he scores twice against the Baggies.

Sandro watched Kane rise through the ranks at Spurs and was the player replaced by the forward when he made his debut for the club from the bench in 2012.

"Sometimes you have players in the youth team who then don't do very well when they come into the first team," Sandro said. "But Kane could do for the first team what he did for the U21s.

"Everyone was also asking whether he could do for a second year what he did for the first, but he's showing he can do it for a long, long time."
