Jose Mourinho should take charge of Leeds, not Man United - Cellino

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has challenged Jose Mourinho to take charge of his club and lead them into the Premier League and the Champions League.

Mourinho is still out of work after being sacked by Chelsea in December, but is expected to return to management in the summer.

He has been strongly linked with Manchester United ever since leaving Stamford Bridge, with the Old Trafford club struggling to hit top form under Louis van Gaal and facing missing out on Champions League football.

But Cellino believes Mourinho should prove himself at Leeds, who find themselves 12th in the Championship.

Leeds, arch rivals of Man United, were relegated 12 years ago but have only once, in 2006, come close to a return to the top flight when they lost to Watford in the playoff final.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Cellino said that he has spoken with Mourinho -- and also claims another former Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, has expressed an interest in the job.

He said: "I told him, 'If you had the balls, you should come and manage Leeds. Bring Leeds into the Premier League and then the Champions League. That's balls.'

"You want to play football -- come with me to Leeds. Mourinho, like others, has to ask himself if he is still a coach. How do you find out? By going to Manchester United?

"[Carlo] Ancelotti called me. 'Massimo, bring the club into the Premier League and I come to you because the only place I miss and want to go back to is England.'

"For me a good coach still has to show he's a good coach. Come here and show me."

Leeds are currently managed by Steve Evans but there is constant speculation over his future, with Cellino already having sacked five managers during his time at the helm.

On speculation that Italy World Cup-winning defender Fabio Cannavaro is being considered, Cellino said: "I'm 100 percent not looking to appoint Cannavaro as manager. There's not one chance."

But he made no attempt to hide the fact that he and Evans have a fiery relationship. "He talks too much," Cellino added. "He has to learn to shut his mouth. I've told him so many times to stop, you have no idea. But he doesn't."

Cellino's ownership of the club has been controversial throughout. He was banned from running the club due to a tax evasion offence after buying them, then last week a former employee, Lucy Ward, won a case of unfair dismissal and sex discrimination against them.

Leeds fans are continuing to protest against the way he is running the club and plan a march this week.
