Stoke's Ryan Shawcross wants to beat Tottenham to help Leicester title bid

Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross wants to help Leicester City win the Premier League title by beating Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.

Leicester have a seven-point lead over Spurs with five matches remaining and they can take another step towards a maiden title with a victory at home to West Ham on Sunday.

Spurs could be 10 points behind the Foxes by the time they travel to the Britannia Stadium for the first of three consecutive Monday night matches and a defeat would all but end their hopes of a first league title since 1961.

But Stoke centre-back Shawcross is hoping to beat Spurs to help his former Potters teammate Robert Huth to glory with Leicester.

"I'm pleased to see him doing so well and he's been a catalyst for the success they've had and how well they're doing," Shawcross told Sky Sports. "His performances have been fantastic so I hope they do go on and win it.

"For a team to go from the bottom of the table a year ago to maybe winning the title is a fantastic achievement and it'll never happen again.

"Hopefully we can get the win that helps Leicester win the title, but it's going to be a difficult game."

Stoke have little to play for, aside from a Europa League push, but they have drawn with Leicester and Arsenal, and beaten both Manchester clubs at home this season.

Shawcross added: "Our form against Spurs at home has been good over the years -- they're a good team, but we've got lots of good players."

Meanwhile, Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld believes his side have the mentality to push Leicester all the way.

"As a team we've shown a lot of mental strength," said the Belgium international. "Every game is a big game and we want to achieve a Champions League spot.

"It's a long time since Spurs have been in the Champions League so we've got to focus on doing that and if we can catch Leicester then we will be very happy.

"We've just got to focus on our own game, we can't control Leicester and we can't control the other teams, only ourselves.

"There is pressure in every Premier League game and we have to get the three points regardless of what Leicester do."
