West Brom's Chris Brunt to miss Euro 2016 with knee injury

Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt has undergone knee surgery in France today, according to West Bromwich Albion's official website.

The injury is likely to keep the Northern Ireland defender out of action for six months and means Brunt will not only miss the rest of the Premier League season, but also Northern Ireland's European Championship campaign this summer.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis said: "It's a big blow for Chris and everyone is feeling for him right now.

"It will be disappointing for us not to have him for the rest of the season because he is a terrific player who gives the team great balance.

"But obviously it is made even more cruel because it has denied him a career highlight with Northern Ireland this summer."

Brunt suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Crystal Palace on Feb. 27.

He was accompanied in France by West Brom's director of performance Dr Mark Gillett, who remained optimistic that Brunt would be back in action next season.

"We are hopeful that Chris will be nearing the completion of his rehabilitation towards the start of next season," he said.
