Arsene Wenger and Jamie Vardy take Premier League awards for October

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been named the Premier League's Manager of the Month for October, while Leicester striker Jamie Vardy was named top player.

Arsenal won all four of their league games last month, enjoying 3-0 wins over Manchester United, Watford and Swansea as well as beating Everton 2-1, and Wenger said winning the award was a welcome boost after Wednesday's 5-1 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.

"It is always good because it just reminds you that -- especially after a defeat like we had on Wednesday night -- we have not done too badly in the last month," Wenger, whose side are second in the Premier League, told Sky Sports.

"You worry as well about maintaining the run for coming months. That is what we want to do always."

On the victory over United, Wenger added: "That was the highlight because there are very few matches in your life where it all clicks perfectly in the first 20 minutes and that is one of the games.

"We had a difficult start against West Ham and after that we have responded very well and are now on a good run. Our target of course is to maintain it."

Leicester, meanwhile, are just one point behind Arsenal, having claimed three wins and a draw in the Premier League in October.

Vardy was key to their good form, scoring five goals across those four games against Norwich, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.

The England forward also scored a penalty in Saturday's 2-1 win over Watford to extend his scoring run to nine consecutive Premier League games, one short of the record set by former Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy
