Jose Mourinho off as 10-man Chelsea lose at West Ham, Arsenal go top

Chelsea endured another awful day in the 2015-16 Premier League season as they lost 2-1 at West Ham United and had manager Jose Mourinho and midfielder Nemanja Matic sent off.

West Ham took the lead on 17 minutes with Mauro Zarate crashing home after Chelsea failed to fully clear a corner.

Chelsea came within millimetres of levelling before half-time when Kurt Zouma saw a header go very close to crossing the line.

Cesc Fabregas then saw a goal ruled out for offside before things went from bad to worse with Matic receiving a second yellow card before the break.

With manager Mourinho watching on from the stands in the second half, his 10 men levelled when Gary Cahill slammed the ball past goalkeeper Adrian.

West Ham retook the lead with 11 minutes remaining through substitute Andy Carroll, who headed in powerfully from Aaron Cresswell's cross.

Arsenal moved to the top of the table for 24 hours at least with a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Everton.

The Gunners took the lead in the 36th minute through Olivier Giroud. Mesut Ozil lofted a superbly weighted ball into the box, and the France international helped it past goalkeeper Tim Howard with his head.

The second came just two minutes later. Santi Cazorla took a free kick from the left and the Everton defence was nowhere to be seen as Laurent Koscielny headed in.

But Everton were soon back in the game as Ross Barkley's shot deflected off Gabriel and beat Petr Cech.

Romelu Lukaku hit the bar 12 minutes from time, but the Toffees could not find a leveller.

Gareth Barry was sent off deep into stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is under even more pressure after his side let a lead slip in a 2-1 loss to Swansea City.

Villa's Jordan Ayew got the better of brother Andre after the home side broke following an opportunity for the latter, and Jordan netted with a diving header.

Swansea hit back in the 68th minute, Gylfi Sigurdsson curling in a fine free kick beyond goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

It was then Andre Ayew's turn to get on the score sheet, prodding in from Kyle Naughton's to make it 2-1.

Jamie Vardy's incredible season continued as he netted a 10th Premier League goal in 2015-16 as Leicester beat Crystal Palace 1-0.

Vardy scored for the seventh game running, latching on to Riyad Mahrez's delivery and slotting in on 59 minutes.

Watford recorded a third top-flight win of the season as they beat Stoke 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium.

The away side were denied by the crossbar twice in quick succession in the first half, with Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney both frustrated.

But they did find the breakthrough two minutes before half-time when Deeney was clinical from the edge of the area with a finish into the bottom corner.

Watford doubled their advantage through Almen Abdi, whose splendid finish beat goalkeeper Jack Butland at his near post.

West Brom made it back-to-back wins as they overcame Norwich City thanks to Salomon Rondon's winner.

Rondon scored in the first minute of the second half to put West Brom 1-0 up, getting on the end of a James McClean cross to head home.
