Man City's Vincent Kompany feels 'great' after making return for Belgium

Vincent Kompany has declared he is fit for Manchester City after coming through his comeback for Belgium unscathed.

Kompany, 29, had been out for four weeks with a calf injury but played the first hour of Belgium's 3-1 win over Israel on Tuesday.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini had said his captain, who was hurt in the 2-1 defeat to Juventus, could not play for his country after he was not fit for his club's last five matches.

But Belgium manager Marc Wilmots picked the centre-back anyway and Kompany felt he benefited from his return to action.

"I feel great and I'm glad I got to do it," he told Sky Sports News. "It's going again now and I'm looking forward to the next games.

"I needed to be a part of this. I play for my country. I'm proud to do it. There are no small games and I have given everything I have for City, I will always do this, but I do the same for my country."

Kompany's return to fitness is a welcome boost to City, who have only conceded one goal when he has been on the pitch this season.

They host Bournemouth on Saturday before a Champions League clash with Sevilla and the Manchester derby against United on Oct. 25.

However, the Premier League leaders have lost striker Sergio Aguero and midfielder David Silva to injuries sustained playing for their countries.

Aguero, who has said he will be out for up to a month with a hamstring problem, arrived back in Manchester on Tuesday.
