Chelsea captain John Terry still 'world class' - West Brom's Salomon Rondon

West Brom forward Salomon Rondon insists John Terry is still one of the best defenders in the game despite his rocky start to the season.

Terry, 34, was sent off for bringing down Rondon in Chelsea's 3-2 win at West Brom on Sunday. That came a week after he had been hauled off at half-time in Chelsea's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City to cast doubts over his future.

Rondon believes referee Mark Clattenburg was right to send Terry off, a decision which former ref Dermot Gallagher also backed, but still feels Terry is a force to be reckoned with.

He said: "It is very complicated playing against him. He is a world-class defender and all of the world knows how he plays. It is a question of identifying his weak points and trying to exploit them.

"Was it a red? For me, yes. He pulled my shirt and I would have got the ball if he had not.

"It is a type of football here that suits me, I think, because of my physical characteristics. I need to get to my best as quickly as possible to show my qualities, but I think I am suited to this type of physical game."

Rondon was making his home debut after a record £12 million move from Zenit St Petersburg and could play again on Tuesday against Port Vale in the Capital One Cup. He hopes he can adapt to the Premier League quickly.

He said: "I am trying to be at my best as fast as I can. The Russian league had already started but I have been a few weeks without playing. There are certain details that have not quite been ironed out yet, but I am doing everything I can to be back as quickly as possible."
