Raheem Sterling scores as Man City beat Roma 5-4 on penalties

Raheem Sterling scored three minutes into his Manchester City debut while Joe Hart was the hero as Manuel Pellegrini's side beat Roma 5-4 on penalties in their International Champions Cup clash in Melbourne.

Sterling, 20, slipped over with his first touch of the ball in a City shirt, but made amends after just 137 seconds as he burst onto a through-ball from Kelechi Iheanacho to slot coolly past Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis.

Roma, who had beaten Real Madrid 7-6 on penalties in their opening match, equalised soon afterwards, with Miralem Pjanic unleashing a drive to beat Willy Caballero from 25 yards.

Iheanacho continued his impressive display with a fine finish following a defensive error after 51 minutes, but Adem Ljajic's free kick four minutes from time sent the game to penalties.

Aleksandar Kolarov skied his penalty while Hart -- who was beaten by Andrea Pirlo's "Panenka" penalty chip at Euro 2012 -- suffered the same fate against Ljajic.

But Hart then stepped up to score City's fifth spot kick and saved Seydou Doumbia's attempted "Panenka" to force the shootout to sudden death, and James Horsfield netted before Hart parried Seydou Keita's weak attempt to win the match.

Bayern Munich edged Inter Milan with a 1-0 victory in Shanghai courtesy of second-half substitute Mario Gotze.

Gotze -- who has recently been linked with a move to Juventus -- came off the bench after the interval and broke through Inter's defence before rounding Assane Demoya Gnoukour to score the winner 10 minutes from time.

Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski both wasted presentable chances for the Bundesliga champions as they made it two wins out of two so far in China, while Roberto Mancini's Inter side created few openings.

The German side scored three times inside 20 minutes and had added the fourth in the second half before letting off the gas and conceding goals to Mario Gavranovic and Philippe Koch.

Manolo Gabbiadini and Dires Mertens also scored two goals apiece, with one of Mertens coming on a stunning free kick. Alfredo Bifulco capped the scoring in the 78th minute.

Leicester City defeated Lincoln City 3-1 in Claudio Ranieri's debut on the Foxes' bench.

Riyad Mahrez, Andrej Kramaric and Jamie Vardy scored for the top-flight side as new signings Christian Fuchs, Shinji Okazaki and Robert Huth all played the opening 45 minutes.

Jordan Amavi made his Aston Villa debut in a 2-0 win over Swindon Town.

Scott Sinclair scored the opener on a tap-in in the 28th minute, and teenager Jerell Sellars added a second late on.

Graziano Pelle and Jay Rodriguez both had hat tricks as Southampton had their way with Dutch amateur side KVV Quick '20, winning 10-0.

Harry Cornick spotted Bournemouth a lead but the newly promoted Premier League team were pegged back in a 2-1 loss to ninth-tier Salisbury.
