Yohan Cabaye open to playing for Crystal Palace, clubs yet to agree fee

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye is open to the prospect of a move to Crystal Palace as talks continue between the two clubs over the French international, a source has told ESPN.

Palace boss Alan Pardew put Cabaye on the Premier League stage when he signed him for Newcastle in 2011, with the duo's strong working relationship remaining intact despite the French midfielder doing all he could to move to PSG at the start of the 2013-14 season.

Cabaye eventually moved to Paris in January 2014, but he has struggled to make his mark with the Ligue 1 side and after ESPN revealed exclusively at the start of June that Palace had made a move to sign him, it appears a deal is edging closer.

PSG and Palace have been holding talks over the prospect of Cabaye moving to south London, but finalizing a fee for the 29-year-old may be a stumbling block with the French club keen to recoup as much of the £19 million they paid for the player as possible.

There are suggestions that a £10 million asking price is being discussed, which would see Palace break their current transfer record that saw them pay a reported £7 million for James McArthur last summer.

The move for Cayabe would back up Pardew's claims that he was keen to sign top quality players this summer, as he confirmed in his exclusive interview with ESPN in May.

"We want to compete with teams like Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton and maybe even Spurs in the transfer market this summer," Pardew told us.

"While we cannot compete with some of those clubs in terms of budgets, we can look to attract the kind of players they are also in the market for. If we could add that kind of quality of player to this current group, then we have a chance to push on."

West Ham, Tottenham and Southampton have also been linked with a bid to sign Cabaye in recent days.
