Manchester City made £1.24 million from Kieran Trippier's move to Tottenham as a result of a sell-on clause agreed when they allowed the right-back to join Burnley.

Trippier was a graduate of City's youth system but did not make a first-team appearance as he failed to displace Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards from the team.

When City sold Trippier to Burnley for £400,000 in 2012 after a successful loan spell at Turf Moor, they also inserted a clause guaranteeing them 40 percent of the profits from his future sale.

Trippier signed for Tottenham for £3.5 million -- a fee enforced because of another release clause in his contract -- giving City £1.24 million and Burnley £2.26 million.

The 24-year-old, who impressed during Burnley's season in the Premier League, became Spurs' second summer signing after Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer.

The Clarets are waiting to discover how much money they will receive for Danny Ings, who has also left them to stay in the top flight, with a tribunal set to rule on the fee for the out-of-contract forward's move to Liverpool.

Burnley are likely to target two strikers in the summer transfer window, as Ashley Barnes is set to miss much of next season with a cruciate ligament injury.
