Chelsea youth can emulate Man United's Class of '92, says Chalobah

Chelsea youth product Nathaniel Chalobah believes he and his academy mates can mirror the storied Manchester United "Class of '92," which featured David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt.

The United class, which lifted the FA Youth Cup that year, went on to win multiple major titles, including the 1999 Champions League, as senior members of the Old Trafford club. And Chalobah believes Chelsea's current crop of academy aces -- which includes Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dominic Solanke and Izzy Brown -- can experience similar success.

"I have started watching Class of '92, but I haven't finished it!" Chalobah said on Wednesday. "We could definitely do that at Chelsea. It's a big club, but United are a big club as well and if they were able to do that I don't see why Chelsea couldn't. It's about the right timing, being in the right place and getting the opportunity."

The 21-year-old Chalobah is especially excited for the prospects of midfielder Loftus-Cheek, who made a number of senior appearances at the end of last season's title-winning campaign.

"I have seen Ruben play this season and I am honestly so proud. It is so good to see players coming through and to see the likes of Dom Solanke and Izzy Brown. You look at that and say 'Wow, it is possible.' I am honestly so chuffed for Ruben and so happy for him that he had a chance to play next year and I hope he kicks on."

As for his own prospects, Chalobah, who spent last season on loan at Reading, believes he is on the right path to someday join the academy trio of Loftus-Cheek, Solanke and Brown at Stamford Bridge.

"I have been at Chelsea for 10 years now," Chalobah said. "I would love to say I came through and played however many games as a Chelsea player. It is still important to be learning, and even more important to be playing games. I have been doing that the last few years so I can't really complain too much."
