Tottenham's Harry Kane and Saints' Ronald Koeman win January awards

Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Southampton boss Ronald Koeman have won the Premier League's Player and Manager of the Month awards respectively for January.

The news was announced on Friday morning, with both Kane and Koeman enjoying an impressive start to 2015.

Kane hit five goals for Spurs, including braces against Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion, and played a key role in his side's 5-3 defeat of the Premier League leaders on Jan. 1.

The striker's form has helped Tottenham get back in the hunt for a Champions League place, while England manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that he will be included in his Three Lions squad for the matches against Lithuania and Italy next month.

"I'd like to thank the whole team, the club, the staff, the manager, everyone," Kane told Tottenham's official website.

"It's a team game and we've picked up some really great results and hopefully we can continue that now until the end of the season."

The Manager of the Month award, meanwhile, went to Koeman after the Dutchman guided Southampton to three Premier League wins out of three -- against Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle -- to keep alive their top-four hopes.

It is the second time he has won the award in his first season in the Premier League, having also been successful in September.

"It's a great feeling. It's not easy to win it as a Southampton manager one time, and for sure it's more difficult to win it twice," Koeman told Southampton's official website. "That's happened and it's a great feeling and it's a big compliment for the whole team.

"We are working hard to prepare the players for every game, that's the people on the technical staff. It's all the people around the technical staff too, the medical staff. We are doing that together. It's a reward for the manager but it's for the rest of the team as well."
