'Unlucky' Tottenham deserved more than defeat, says Mauricio Pochettino

LIVERPOOL -- Mauricio Pochettino felt Tottenham were unlucky to lose at Anfield as their four-game winning run in the Premier League came to an end in a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool.

Mario Balotelli ended his Premier League goal drought, which dated back to 2012, to score the winner, which exacerbated Pochettino's feelings his side were unfortunate.

Harry Kane and Mousa Dembele scored Spurs' goals as Tottenham equalised twice and Pochettino was delighted with the spirit they showed.

He said in a news conference: "I think that it was a great game. I am disappointed and at the same time proud of our players because they were great but in football you have to be lucky to get the points and today I think we were unlucky."

Balotelli had failed to score in 12 previous Premier League games for Liverpool before scoring against Tottenham and Pochettino added: "Unlucky for us."

Pochettino rued some poor passing by his side in the first 45 minutes but felt the result did not reflect their efforts in an eventful game at Anfield.

"I think maybe we give the opportunity to Liverpool in the first half more than the second," he explained. "We give many balls away and easy balls.

"We gave Liverpool the ball and they played on the counter-attack. It was a little bit disappointing for that but I think the performance was good and we played to win the game. I think it is a shame. We deserve a little bit more.

"We are disappointed with the result because I think one point would have been fair for both teams. It was a great game, we played well but this is football. The players are very disappointed, sad and tired but we have to accept football is like this.

"I am proud of the effort and we have to look forward. The only thing we need to improve, in the first half we gave Liverpool some chances and made some mistakes. We deserved more from this game."
