Paul Lambert: Aston Villa did not deserve Chelsea defeat

Paul Lambert believes his Aston Villa side deserved at least a point from Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea as Jose Mourinho's table-toppers left Villa Park with a 2-1 victory.

Eden Hazard's opener was cancelled out by Jores Okore's first strike for Villa, ending their 11-hour league goal drought.

It was Villa's first league goal since Dec. 20, but defeat left them two places above the bottom three.

Lambert dropped the out-of-form Christian Benteke as he tried to find a way to solve their goal problems, and the Scot felt Villa were unlucky against the leaders despite winning just twice in their last 20 top-flight games.

"There's a lot of good things to come out of the game for us, we're disappointed to lose. I didn't think we deserved to lose,'' said Lambert, after his 100th Premier League game in charge.

"Football-wise we played well. I thought the front three were excellent. The performance was very good.

"We're coming into a run of games that, if we play like that, we'll pick up points. It's not just about 17th, we want to go as high as possible. That's the standard they have set themselves.''

Lambert and Mourinho did not shake hands at the end and the Scot seemed to unhappy during the game after an exchange between the benches.

He added: "I went to shake his hand, but Jose was half way down the pitch so I didn't get a chance. He is a great manager, it's fantastic what the guy has done. I'd love to learn from him as a football manager.

"But I wouldn't like to learn things off the pitch by someone in his dugout, that's for sure."
