Louis van Gaal's team is the worst Man United side I have faced - Joey Barton

Joey Barton says Louis van Gaal's team is the worst Manchester United side he has faced in his career.

The Queens Park Rangers captain played the full 90 minutes in his team's 2-0 defeat to United at Loftus Road on Jan. 17 and was unimpressed.

Barton told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Having played Man United recently, this is going to sound controversial, but it's arguably the worst Man United side I've played against in my 11 or 12 years. I just thought they were really poor, really stale in terms of how they approached the game."

The 32-year-old missed QPR's 4-0 defeat to United at Old Trafford in September and never played against David Moyes' United as Harry Redknapp's side were in the Championship last season.

Barton said he felt for the Scot -- who has taken over at Real Sociedad following his Old Trafford sacking last season -- saying: "Van Gaal is a great coach but I feel a lot of sympathy for the Moyes tenure."

The midfielder also questioned how well former United vice-captain Darren Fletcher will fare at West Bromwich Albion after completing his deadline-day move, wondering how much the debilitating bowel complaint ulcerative colitis -- which restricted Fletcher to 11 appearances over a two-year period -- had affected the Scot.

"No disrespect to Darren, but how much has that injury taken out of him? He was a top player," Barton added. "The real strength that lied in him was in his capability to get round the park which he did in a lot of massive games.

"Very rarely players leave Man United with plenty in the tank."
