Kevin Strootman says he's in no hurry to leave Roma for Manchester United

Kevin Strootman has insisted he is in no rush to leave Roma, despite continued reports linking the midfielder with a move to join up with his Dutch compatriot Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

Since Van Gaal took over last summer at United, Strootman has been persistently linked with a move there, and his return to fitness with Roma this month has fueled speculation that the Old Trafford club are preparing a bid to sign him in the winter transfer window.

Yet Strootman hinted to Sky Italia that he feels he owes something to Roma after spending the first half of the season in the treatment room as he recovered from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

"I've signed up for five years, but so far I've only been playing for six or seven months," said Strootman.

"I want to play and help the team. That's important to me. If I spoke about other clubs that would be disrespectful, and I don't want to do that."

Strootman hopes Roma fans will see the best of him in the second half of the Serie A season, as he suggested his return to action in the final weeks of 2014 was a premature return.

"I worked for eight months to come back. I played against Sassuolo and I wasn't good, I came on against [CSKA] Moscow and wasn't right," he added.

"After the winter break, I've been training with more confidence, I feel better physically and I'm returning to 100 percent. I'm not there yet, but I'm coming back."
