Atletico Madrid have confirmed they will sign former striker Fernando Torres on loan from Milan. (1:20)

Fernando Torres says he will always view his time with Chelsea as a success as it allowed him to secure the silverware that had eluded him during his time with Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.

Atletico confirmed on Monday that a deal is in place to re-sign Torres on an 18-month loan from AC Milan next month, subject to a medical, with Alessio Cerci later announcing he is set to move in the opposite direction.

Torres, a boyhood Atletico fan, made his name at the Vicente Calderon and, after establishing himself as one of Europe's most promising strikers, cemented his reputation as one of the best in the world after moving to Liverpool in 2007.

However, although Torres had won the 2008 European Championship and 2010 World Cup with Spain, it was not until his move to Stamford Bridge in 2011 that he secured a major trophy at club level, with the Blues winning the FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League during his time there.

While he was unable to recapture the goal-scoring form that saw the Blues pay Liverpool a reported 50 million pounds for his services, the 30-year-old has no regrets over the switch.

"Chelsea gave me what I was looking for when I left Liverpool: trophies," Torres told a news conference in Dubai. "I will always see [my time there] as a success because they gave me what I always wanted."

He added: "It gave me all the trophies I have with clubs and I was lucky enough to also win trophies with Spain. Now I hope to win them with Atletico."

Torres joined Milan on loan from Chelsea in the summer but scored just one goal in Serie A, and he said he felt he had to move on after falling down the pecking order under coach Filippo Inzaghi.

"I decided to join AC Milan because I thought I would get more playing time and they told me that I would be a key member of the squad," Torres said.

"Unfortunately, after just a few months, I started to discover that the coach didn't count on me -- something which I respect 100 percent but that forced me to look ahead to the future and begin looking for another club.

"Atletico made contact and I was in no doubt at all. I would like to thank AC Milan for their understanding and for making it easy to find a quick solution."
