QPR boss Harry Redknapp satisfied with a point earned vs. Man City

QPR boss Harry Redknapp said he believed his side would hold on to win on Saturday, but he was still pleased by earning a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Charlie Austin gave QPR the lead but Sergio Aguero equalised before Austin's cross was then turned into his own net by Martin Demichelis.

Aguero then mesmerised the QPR defence for a second time to earn a draw.

Reflecting on his side's overall display, Redknapp said: "I really felt once we got in front 2-1 that we'd go on and win the game but they're always dangerous, they've got loads of quality players in their team.

"Overall I felt that when we went one up we were well on top and they scored against the run of play.

"I felt we came strong again second half, went 2-1 up and I thought we'd hang on there."

He added: "Another excellent performance from QPR, I thought we were great tonight."

Austin scored the opener after finding the City net for the third time after 21 minutes. The striker admitted he thought he had already given his side the lead before his goal stood.

The former Burnley man had two strikes ruled out in the space of 30 seconds after eight minutes, but each time the visitors' shambolic defence was reprieved.

He was offside in heading in, then City goalkeeper Joe Hart kicked the ball twice, firstly with his standing foot, before the striker scored. Referee Mike Dean correctly ruled out the effort.

Hart was making a "two" gesture to the officials before the striker hit his shot but Austin thought he had scored, and said: "Didn't you see from my celebration? I turned around and no-one was with me. When I looked back, everyone was around the ref.

"To be honest, when it came to me I just thought 'shoot'. It went in and I thought I'd put us 1-0 up but unfortunately it didn't count."

Redknapp also said he believes Austin is benefiting from playing alonside strike partner Bobby Zamora.

"He's improving, he's getting better every game and his confidence is high," said Redknapp. "I think playing with Bobby has been a big plus for him.

"Bobby Zamora has done excellent for us and playing up there with Charlie has been a big plus. His hold-up play is getting better, his general all-round play is getting better and his confidence is high because when you start to score a few goals it makes a massive difference to any goal scorer.

"It's all about confidence and his confidence is high at the moment."
