Victor Valdes offered rehabilitation training by Manchester United

Manchester United have announced that Louis van Gaal has offered former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes the chance to complete his rehabilitation from injury with the Premier League club.

Valdes, 32, has been a free agent since his Camp Nou contract ran out this summer. The former Barca No. 1 was ruled out of action for seven months in March with a serious knee injury, and has yet to sign for a new club despite Monaco and Liverpool having previously shown interest.

An official statement on the club's website read: "Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has offered the 32-year-old former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes a chance to complete his rehabilitation from a knee injury and to work his way back to fitness with the club.

"Valdes, a free agent, will have his recovery supervised by the United medical staff before training with the first team, as he bids to regain full fitness."

Sources told ESPN that Valdes' time at Carrington is a favour from Van Gaal, who was his manager at Barcelona. However, it gives the Spain international an opportunity to impress the United boss.

Current United No. 1 David de Gea has been linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks, but he has played down speculation of a move to the Bernabeu.
