Baines wants to retire at Everton

Samuel Eto'o explained how manager Roberto Martinez persuaded him to join Everton, as the Cameroonian striker signs on a two-year deal.

Everton left-back Leighton Baines says he is planning to stay at the club for the rest of his career.

- O'Farrell: Martinez needs answer to late errors

Baines, 29, was the subject of three bids from Manchester United last summer, but ended up remaining at Goodison Park.

And the England international committed his future to the Toffees by signing a four-year contract in January.

Baines has played nearly 300 matches for Everton since his arrival from Wigan for six million pounds in 2007.

He says his ambition is to help the club end their wait for a trophy stretching back to 1995, when they won the FA Cup.

"I may well retire here now -- I'm not looking to go anywhere else," Baines told Everton's official website.

"I'm trying to achieve something at this club because it's been starved of success over the decades.

"I would love to be a part of a team that brings success back."

Baines believes Everton have shown ambition this summer by bringing in six players and signing young talent Ross Barkley and John Stones to new contracts. Barkley and Stones extended their deals during the close season, despite links with other sides.

"They were linked to other clubs but committed themselves to Everton on long-term contracts, and that's as big a boost as anything," Baines said.
