Stoke boss Mark Hughes said his players had been given "a wake-up call" after they crashed to a 1-0 opening day Premier League defeat at home to Aston Villa. Hughes said the Potters had made mistakes as Andreas Weimann's goal proved the difference at the Britannia Stadium. "It is all about making sure if someone makes a mistake or the ball ricochets, then the very next thing is done correctly and we were probably guilty of consecutive errors there," he added. "Inevitably, goals come at the end of three or four mistakes. We need to be better than that. It is a wake-up call for us." Stoke secured their best-ever Premier League finish of ninth under Hughes last term, and the Welshman said: "There was a lot of expectation on us today and maybe that has been tempered somewhat. Maybe that is no bad thing, because we know this is a season when we are going to have to work hard." Potters forward Bojan Krkic was among several players on the field making their competitive debuts for their new clubs after summer transfers, and Hughes said: "It was important he got some him game time. He showed glimpses in certain situations. "We need to be able to find him in those areas more often. We will have to make sure he plays in the right games against the right opposition and we get the best out of him. Today, we weren't able to."
