Spurs hit Celtic for six

Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela were among the goalscorers as Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Celtic 6-1 in Saturday's friendly in Helsinki.

Spurs raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to efforts from frontmen Harry Kane and Soldado in the fourth and 11th minutes respectively.

Jamie Lindsay pulled a goal back for Celtic in the 43rd, but a minute later Lewis Holtby restored the two-goal cushion and Tottenham kept the momentum going after the break.

Midfielder Lamela -- who, like Soldado, is looking to bounce back after a disappointing first season with the London club -- made it 4-1 just before the hour mark.

And a Christian Eriksen free-kick and an Emmanuel Adebayor penalty wrapped up the rout in the last 10 minutes, while Celtic's misery was compounded by a red card for Efe Ambrose -- his second this week, having been dismissed in Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Legia Warsaw.

Ashley Young scored either side of a Gareth Bale penalty in the first half, and Manchester United beat Real Madrid 3-1 on Saturday in front of the largest crowd to see a soccer game in the United States.

United remained unbeaten in this year's International Champions Cup, advancing to the final of the preseason tournament on Monday night in Miami, where they will face Liverpool.

Joe Allen scored in the 17th minute off a deflected save by goalkeeper Christian Abbaiti. Allen had a clear shot at the goal from 20 yards out, but it bounced off the left post. Raheem Sterling collared the rebound six yards out, only to have Abbiata make a diving save. But the deflection went right to Allen, who punched it into the right side of the goal from eight yards.

Suso, who entered the game at the 60th minute, added an insurance goal at the 90th minute, putting his open look from just outside the penalty box into the right side of the net past goalkeeper Gabriel.

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo plundered four goals as Benfica were swept aside 5-1 in the Emirates Cup. Sanogo produced a clinical display as he bagged a first-half hat trick while Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell, back from a loan spell at Olympiakos, also impressed, scoring his first goal in an Arsenal shirt.

Dimitrios Diamantakos scored twice and Roberto Jimenez Gago made two saves in a shootout to help Olimpiakos beat Manchester City 5-4 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw.

City opened the scoring with a Stevan Jovetic goal in the 35th minute. Samir Nasri picked out Jovetic and he dribbled past one defender, then split two others with a right-footed shot that beat a flat-footed Jimenez Gago. Two minutes later, Diamantakos equalised for Olimpiakos.

Aleksander Kolarov put City 2-1 in the 53rd minute with a penalty after David Silva was tripped in the box. But Diamantakos levelled in the 65th minute when he collected a pass just outside the box, moved past goalkeeper Joe Hart and blasted it into the open net

Newcastle United, playing at Schalke's Veltins Arena, conceded three goals in 18 first-half minutes en route to a 3-1 loss to Spanish side Malaga.

Sergi Darder opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a long-range strike that went in off the woodwork. Samu Castillejo volleyed in at the far post in the 32nd minute and the same man then netted a deflected effort towards the end of the half before Gabriel Obertan fired in a consolation on the hour.

Competing in the same Schalke Cup tournament as Newcastle, West Ham United drew 0-0 with the host club at the Veltins Arena before triumphing 7-6 on penalties.

The Hammers had survived a few scares during the 90 minutes, with their German opponents hitting the woodwork twice.

Aston Villa slumped to a 4-1 defeat away against Dutch side Groningen after conceding two goals in the opening eight minutes.Both of those were scored by Tjaronn Chery, and Jarchinio Antonia then made it 3-0 on the half-hour.

Charles N'Zogbia responded with a free-kick with around 15 minutes to go, but Groningen were not done and Dino Islamovic added their fourth in the last few seconds.

Inter Milan beat AS Roma 2-0 in the International Champions Cup.

Nemanja Vidic met a free-kick from Dodo to head Inter into the lead just before the break. Roma almost levelled in the 48th minute, but Mattia Destro headed wide of an open goal unmarked six yards out.

Yuto Nagatomo doubled the lead in the 69th minute as he collected a loose ball and buried it past Lukasz Skorupski into the top corner.

Barcelona settled for a 1-1 draw against Nice in France with both goals coming on penalties.

Gerard Pique's foul in the area allowed Dario Cvitanich to give Nice the lead from the spot.

Ivan Rakitic debuted for Barca after the break but it was Munir El Haddadi who drew a penalty in the 66th minute. Xavi fired home to level the score.

Summer signing Bafetimbi Gomis was again on the scoresheet for Swansea City as they beat Reading 3-1 at the Madejski Stadium.

The France striker provided a cool finish to seal the victory in the second half. Wayne Routledge had earlier -- after Wilfried Bony crashed a penalty against the crossbar -- scored twice in three minutes to put the Swans in charge, with the hosts replying through a Nick Blackman wonder strike.

Crystal Palace suffered a 3-2 defeat at Championship newcomers Brentford. A flurry of goals early in the second half saw Jonathan Douglas and Andre Gray put the home team 2-0 up and Palace then draw level through Glenn Murray and Marouane Chamakh. Moses Odubajo subsequently notched the winner.

A Stoke City XI drew 0-0 at Burton Albion and West Bromwich Albion  went down 1-0 at Nottingham Forest courtesy of a Matty Fryatt goal.

Charlie Austin and Junior Hoilett scored a brace apiece in Queens Park Rangers' 4-0 win at Shamrock Rovers, while summer recruit Marvin Sordell's effort steered Burnley to a 1-0 triumph at Blackpool.

Leicester City drew 1-1 at Preston North End, with Liam Moore's goal cancelled out by a Tom Clarke header.

Sunderland were held to a goalless draw by Vitoria Setubal in the last of their three friendlies in Portugal. The draw comes after Gus Poyet's men had beaten Recreativo Huelva 1-0 before losing to CD Nacional by the same scoreline.
