Louis van Gaal will suit United - Kuyt

Netherlands striker Dirk Kuyt has said he believes Louis van Gaal is the ideal man to restore Manchester United's fortunes after their slump last season.

Van Gaal takes over at Old Trafford after the World Cup and Kuyt, a popular figure during a six-year spell at United's rivals Liverpool, says he will lead them back to winning ways.

The Fenerbahce forward also tips international teammate Robin van Persie to play a leading role again -- just as he did when United lifted the title in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season as boss in 2012-13.

"I think Robin van Persie is an amazing player," the Daily Mirror reported him as saying. "He has shown that at United.

"Unfortunately he was injured too many times last season but I'm sure that, with Van Gaal and Robin together, great things are going to happen United.

"Van Gaal has an open style of management. He has a clear idea of what footballers need in training and outside of training. If you want something to change, his door is open -- but you have to have a very good argument."

He said Van Gaal treated his players "as adults," and his thoughts were echoed by Netherlands assistant coach Patrick Kluivert, who said: "He is a leader.

"But you also have to have communication with the players, because they have to do what he wants -- and he is a good communicator."
