He sparkled for England in October, scoring on his debut against Montenegro and then enjoying another fine game against Poland as Roy Hodgson's side secured a place in Brazil. However, Townsend's form has since tailed off and he last started a Premier League match for Spurs against Arsenal last month. He has made 33 appearances in total this season after impressing during a loan spell with QPR last season.
