Mixed injury news on Aguero, Silva

MANCHESTER -- Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of Manchester City’s trip to Arsenal on Saturday but David Silva has been passed fit to play.

50-50 Challenge: Arsenal vs. Man City

Striker Aguero has missed City’s last three matches with a hamstring injury sustained in the 2-1 defeat to Barcelona.

And while manager Manuel Pellegrini had originally hoped he would be able to make his comeback at the Emirates Stadium, now Aguero is targeting City’s home game against Southampton on April. 5 for his return.

But midfielder Silva, who had treatment on an ankle problem sustained in Tuesday’s Manchester derby win, will keep his place.

Defenders Matija Nastasic and Micah Richards remain sidelined, but midfielder Jack Rodwell, who has had an injury-hit year, is in the squad for the trip to London.

Pellegrini said: “The team is exactly the same as last week with Aguero and Nastasic out.  Aguero needs one more week. We will see next week how he improves from his injury. Silva is okay. He is in the squad list.”

Without their 26-goal top scorer Aguero, Edin Dzeko is likely to lead the line against Arsenal with Alvaro Negredo, who has not scored since January, probably beginning on the bench.

City have been linked with a move for Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna, who is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium in the summer and would be available without a transfer fee, but Pellegrini shrugged off  such talk.

He added: “I have heard so many names through the year that I cannot continue talking about all the rumours every week.”
