Fan group plans anti-Moyes banner

A group of Manchester United fans are threatening to hire a light aircraft to tow a banner over Old Trafford with the message, 'Wrong One -- Moyes Out,’ calling for manager David Moyes to go, The Guardian reported on Thursday.

Payne: Humiliation now commonplace

A United fans' blog, therepublikofmancunia.com said that the group had raised 840 pounds in a day to fund flyover during the game against Aston Villa on Saturday.

"The message is a response to the Stretford End Flags banner which reads 'The Chosen One'," said a message on the website.

After United stumbled to a 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City, there were angry protests directed against Moyes and his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.

United would not be drawn on the threat and did not comment. United's owners, the Glazer family, have continued to offer their backing to Moyes despite the fact that Tuesday's defeat was United's sixth league loss at home this season and 10th overall.

The Red Devils are seventh in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of Champions League qualification and 18 points off leaders Chelsea.

Some fans had earlier called for the group that made the banner -- Stretford End Flags (SEF) -- to remove it following the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool almost two weeks ago.

Stewards also gathered around the banner at full-time after the City defeat to prevent it from being seized.
