Sturridge, Allardyce win monthly awards

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce have been respectively named the Premier League's player and manager of the month for February.

Sturridge's five goals and two assists in five league matches last month have earned him the Player of the Month award for the second time this season, having previously won it back in August.

The 24-year-old will be hoping to carry that form into Sunday's clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford, where a victory would keep the Reds well in the hunt for their first league title since 1990.

Allardyce wins the Manager of the Month award for the fifth time in his career, after claiming the prize four times while he was in charge of Bolton Wanderers.

The Hammers won all four of their league games in February to climb away from the relegation zone and into the top half of the table.

Allardyce told the club's official website: "It's a fantastic time to win this award and of course the players and the staff take as much credit as I do, because that month of February was so needed by everybody who supports West Ham and who works at West Ham because of the predicament we found ourselves in.

"I always said that when we overcame our injuries we would put things right and we couldn't have done any better than winning every game in February.

"The only blip in the middle was losing to Newcastle at home. February was a fantastic month but unfortunately we lost by the odd goal at Everton at the start of March. Even though we lost that game, we want to make this month a good one as well."
