END# Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for six weeks after sustaining a hairline fracture in his left foot during England's 1-0 victory over Denmark on Wednesday. • Brewin: Sturridge shines • McNicholas: Ramsey needed Wilshere sustained the injury during a clash with Daniel Agger early in the game but played on until the 59th minute and subsequently said he had merely sustained a bruise. "It is a bit sore, but just a bruise," he had told reporters after the match. "I have had a scan already and I will be all right." However, the Football Association has now announced that the damage was worse than initially thought and he now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. A statement on the FA website read: "Following initial scans carried out by The FA on Wednesday night, further investigation by Arsenal’s medical team has discovered a crack to a small bone in Wilshere’s left foot -- the navicular, an area of his foot which has not been previously injured. "Wilshere will now require a period of approximately six weeks’ rehabilitation, before embarking on regaining his match fitness." The expected length of Wilshere's absence means Arsenal could only count on the 22-year-old recovering in time for the final few weeks of their season, and gives the midfielder little time to regain full match fitness for this summer's World Cup finals.
