Campbell has Arsenal future - Wenger

Olympiacos head coach Michel says Manchester United will be a different threat at Old Trafford for the second leg of their Round of 16 tie.

LONDON -- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Gunners loanee Joel Campbell could still have a future at the club, after he impressed for Olympiakos against Manchester United in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Mangan: Campbell gives Wenger food for thought

Campbell’s fine goal for the Greek underdogs -- his eighth of the season for them -- helped secure a 2-0 win against United in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Wenger suggested at his prematch news conference ahead of the weekend's trip to Stoke City that he sees signs of improvement from a player he signed from Saprissa back in 2011.

“He was good, convincing going forward,” said Wenger of the 21-year-old, who has also spent time on loan at Lorient and Real Betis as he has failed to make a first team appearance for his parent club.

“He looks like he has adapted better to the physical side of the European game. We knew always that he had talent to create something special, but he relied a bit too much on that. He has been with different clubs. He has learned the toughness of the physical part of the European leagues.”

When asked whether Campbell could return to have a future as an Arsenal star, Wenger was open-minded about the prospect: “Why not have a future here? We bought him to bring him here, so why not."
