Louis Van Gaal hints at Tottenham job

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has given the broadest hint yet that he could be in line to take over as Tottenham head coach next summer.

Louis van Gaal has hinted that he could take over Tottenham after the World Cup.

Van Gaal has previously claimed he was approached by the north London club as they looked to find a successor to Andre Villas-Boas following his sacking last December.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss insisted he would not job share with Tottenham and Holland ahead of next summer's Word Cup finals, but it seems as if he is still open to taking over at Spurs as he spoke to reporters at the Euro 2016 draw in Nice on Sunday.

"I have said before that a challenge should be a club in the Premier League," Van Gaal is quoted in the Daily Mirror. "Maybe Tottenham are coming, but first we have to go to Brazil.

"I will definitely not be in charge for the European campaign with Holland. I don't know where I will go next. Normally I go with my pension, go to live in Portugal, but maybe there will come a new challenge."

The latest developments with Van Gaal do little to bolster the position of current Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood, who may be fall short in his bid to lead Spurs to a top four finish this season after Sunday's disappointing 1-0 defeat at Norwich.

Liverpool's win over Swansea at Anfield opened up a six-point gap in the race for fourth spot, with Sherwood admitting the Carrow Road flop was a hammer blow to his side.

"It looks big, it's a real blow to us, but we've got to bounce back," stated Sherwood. "We've got the second leg of the Europa League match [on Thursday] and then we've got Cardiff at home. We need characters in the dressing room to be able to do that.

"We created a few chances after going behind, but we just couldn't take them. It's the first major setback I've had as manager and now the players must respond."
