Mourinho shoots down Zanetti rumours

Jose Mourinho and Javier Zanetti both have denied reports that the veteran Internazionale player will move to Chelsea in the summer ahead of taking a coaching role.

Jose Mourinho says Chelsea are not poised to sign 40-year-old Javier Zanetti.

Mourinho worked with the 40-year-old at Inter Milan for two years between 2008 and 2010 and, with the two maintaining regular contact, reports surfaced on Thursday night in both Italian and UK media that negotiations had begun to bring Zanetti to Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho was asked about this in his weekly Friday press conference and flatly denied it, stating it is "not true". Zanetti, meanwhile, spoke about it at length in an interview with Inter Channel.

"To be honest, I have a great relationship with Mourinho and we speak to each other frequently, but we've never discussed these things," said the Argentinean. "I think the Inter fans know what I feel for this shirt and I've always maintained that Inter is my life, my home and my desire is to stay here, and I have nothing more to add to that.

"I totally respect the choices of the coach and I utterly respect the work of my teammates and I think that's the way you've got to think when you're part of a great squad. I'll wait for my chance. I'm feeling good and the most important thing is when my chance comes, I can make my contribution, but I think everything's going in the right direction.

"What matters the most now is that Inter get the most out of the 14 games that remain and I hope we manage to qualify for Europe, which is what everybody's interested in. We need to carry on doing what we've done in recent matches, which we won deservedly."
