Shinji Kagawa peeved by 'mental block'

Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa admits he is “irritated” by his inability to find the back of the net this season and believes it is the first campaign in his career in which he has underperformed.

Kagawa, 24, who struck 29 times in his two years at Borussia Dortmund, has started 15 games under United manager David Moyes this term but is yet to score.

The Japan international has lost his place in the Red Devils team and was not even on the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Stoke, but he accepts he has not reached the standards expected of him.

He told Sky PerfecTV: "I still haven't scored any goals this season so I've felt very irritated.

"This is the first time in my career that I haven't been able to produce so it's disappointing.”

Kagawa, whose future at Old Trafford has been called into question after the January arrival of Juan Mata from Chelsea, believes he has “a mental block” as his goal drought continues to drag on.

He added: "I pressure myself to score in every game but some days it feels like I just can't win. I know I have to overcome that.

"Actually, if I can't it really shows that I haven't grown as a player. So because of that I have to really focus on the second half of the season and overcome that mental block."
