Man United announce U.S. summer tour

Manchester United have announced that they will be touring the United States this summer as they prepare for the 2014-15 season.

The Premier League champions, who have not played in the U.S. since 2011, are yet to announce how many games they will play or the venues, but have confirmed they intend to visit "a number of destinations."

However, United’s schedule will depend on how they fare in the rest of the current season with the possibility that, if they do not finish in the top four of the Premier League, they may have to return to England because of Europa League qualifiers.

Managing director Richard Arnold told the club's official website: "I’m delighted to announce that the team will be returning to the USA for our 2014 tour.

"Since the club’s last visit in 2011, the appeal of football in America has grown rapidly.

"Manchester United has over eight million followers in the United States and the 2014 tour presents an exciting opportunity for these fans to get up close to the club they love."

United will take part in a friendly tournament, the International Champions Cup, along with several other major clubs including Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City and European giants Real Madrid and AC Milan..

The competition will take place in 13 different venues across the country. It begins on July 26 -- just two weeks after the World Cup ends -- with the final at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami on August 4.

United played in Boston, Seattle, Chicago, New Jersey and Washington DC during their 2011 trip to America.
