Pellegrini: Seven teams fighting for title

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes seven teams can still win the title this season -- including Manchester United.

• Mooney: Pellegrini should stick with starters at Spurs

Pellegrini takes his team to Tottenham on Wednesday convinced that Tim Sherwood’s side are also capable of ending the campaign on top of the league

And though United go into Tuesday’s match against Cardiff 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, Pellegrini believes David Moyes’ men, who have taken 37 points so far, could top the league -- but warned they don’t have much margin for error.

Pellegrini is adamant that City, Chelsea and Arsenal, who are only separated by two points, will not be the only sides contesting the crown.

He said: “I don’t think we are just three teams involved for the title. Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United continue with chances. In football you never know. We have 48 points more to play for and if you add 48 to 37, it is 85: an important amount of points.”

City beat Tottenham 6-0 in November but Pellegrini is impressed with the way Spurs have progressed under new head coach Tim Sherwood, and striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who joined Tottenham from City in 2012, is in fine form.

Pellegrini added: “They have won the last four games. I saw the last two games they played and they are playing very well. It is always important to have a striker, Adebayor, in a good moment so I am sure we are going to have a very tough game against them.”
